Hope In The Promise! E-mail
Written by Khimani A. Williams

“There is hope for me yet, because God won’t forget all the plans He made for me. I have to wait and see; He’s not finished with me yet.” This is a line from songwriter and singer Brandon Heath’s song ‘Wait and See’. A promise was given to him by God and he refuses to quit, but will wait for the promise. This is a remarkable thing: To have faith in a promise which looks indefinite and eventual, holding on until it manifests. Are you hoping in the promises of God? Or are you anticipating the end, whether the promise proves true or not?

God has made promises to mankind and only those who have hope in His promise will receive it. This is why he who continues in keeping faith will be saved.  [St. Matthew 10: 22]. In giving promises God is giving us His grace, an opportunity to have hope. He gives us something to look forward to, but it requires faith to sustain the belief that God will bring to fruition the seed He has planted in our hearts. Hope then is a promise, something tangible or genuin...

Jesus Took Our Place! E-mail

“Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired. And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. But Pilate answered them, saying, ‘Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?’ For he knew that the chief priests had delivered Him for envy. But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.” Mark 15: 6 - 11

Earlier this month I was at a friend’s house and we were watching an animated Easter film. It was about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, but it had a twist to it. The difference was that instead of the usual narrator explaining the happenings, it had Barabbas, was the Jews asked to be released from prison instead of Jesus, going around like an investigative reporter, seeking to find out the truth about the widespread rumour. He had heard that an innocent man, powerful and kind, died in his place, and though he was a ‘tough guy’ he just couldn’t release himself of such a thought. A good man died for him? This was too good to be true.

Now Barabbas was not your typical criminal. He was what we call a ‘bad man’. St. John 18:40 called him a robber; St. Luke 23:19 said he was cast into prison for sedition (treason, rebellion, subversion) and murder...

The Comfort Of Human Nature! E-mail

A man is caught betraying his marital covenant and he is excused by his wife and others because ‘he’s a man’ and ‘that’s how men are’. A woman lashes out at a friend and humiliates her during a disagreement and she feels justified because she was angry. A child lies to her parents and thinks that it is ok because the truth would have gotten her in trouble. These are just three examples of people excusing themselves and others  because of their ‘inability’ to do what is right when it matters most – in the most difficult circumstances. ‘The flesh made me do it’ is their disingenuous plea, in a bid to circumvent responsibility or avoid confrontation.

I admit that confrontation and guilt can become an unpleasant burden, but it is one worth carrying, or better yet, surrendering to the Lord, who is able to forgive and make reconciliation. A face-to-face standoff with ourselves often reveals our unwanted ugliness and sinfulness, and this is not what we like..
