“If it is a matter of strength, He is mighty! And if it is a matter of justice, who will summon Him?” [Job: 9: 19]. God is not like man, He is immortal, pure and just! God is always just and always will be just. We often cry foul when offenders go free, especially the ones who have offended us. We call for swift, painful retribution. But who are we to make such calls? Who are we to summon God? Are we any better than they? The truth is that all mankind is deserving of God’s judgment, and if He judges all sinners at any given point it would be just. “All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature [Or our flesh] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.” [Ephesians 2:3]. The scripture above clearly states that apart from being a child of God, all are objects of God’s wrath. Are we sure we want God to execute judgment whenever someone does wrong? Is it not better to let Him have vengeance all by Himself without our input? The responsibility for condemning sin is solely God’s because He is the only One without sins. In times past God has judged the world for their sins. Genesis 6 & 7 tells the story of Noah and the Ark, when God judged the entire world because of the multitude of sins. Only eight people survived God’s judgment in that dispensation, Noah and his wife, his three sons and their wives. But was God partial in allowing Noah and his family to live? No! He is God! But it seems to me that even in judgment God’s grace is revealed. Since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, it appears that God is delaying His justice. Though He judged many times He has never destroyed all sinners and what accounts for this is His grace! It is often said that we are living under grace, but I believe that (considering history) at all times God manifested Himself through love, mercy, grace and justice. Many call for the condemnation of others whenever they err not realizing that they are also guilty. I wonder what’ll happen if God brought justice to all who cry for justice (vengeance, i.e.). Jesus made an unpopular statement in the book of St. Matthew 5: 44 – 45 when He said, “But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” We’ll be sons of our Father in heaven? Why are we being like our Father when we love and forgive those who offend us? It is because God has been merciful to men (including us) after we sinned against Him. How long until God brings justice to man, rewarding him as his sin deserves? The Word of God says that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6: 23), therefore death will be the result of God’s justice. But as it stands God offers an alternative, an antidote to the disease called sin which is innate to man. “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” [I John 1: 7]. Though we are evil still God is good to us. And thousand of years have passed and man still lives on in his trespasses. Many have concluded that since justice is delayed, then they are denied God’s wrath. But this is foolish thinking. God is good to us because He wants to save us; He wants for us to repent of our sins. Romans 2: 4 declares, “…do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?” God has not denied men of justice; He is being patient with all of us and wants us to live instead of perish. [II Peter 3: 9]. Because of God’s love justice is delayed, but not denied!
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
