We seem to talk about love at lot as human beings. Why is it so? What is so special about this one little four-letter word? What is its relevance? The Bible talks extensively about love in I Corinthians 13. It explains what genuine love is. I guess if we used the attributes it lists as a guide we would not be easily deceived by anyone. Love is a fruit of the Spirit and so every believer has it. We will do well to express our love and not ?hide? it, that is, if it can be hidden. While we have fruit of the Spirit, we also have the gifts of the Spirit. The gifts of the Spirit are the word of wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, divers kinds of tongues, and the interpretation of tongues. [I Corinthians 12: 8 ? 10]. God gives each person a gift or gifts for the benefit of all the believers. Sometimes those with the gift seek glory for themselves and not God. They are even at times idolized by many, receiving prominence because of their ?powers?. But what will the end of it all be? Nothing! For the only thing that God sees as having worth is l-o-v-e, the more excellent way!The Apostle Paul was explaining to the Corinthians in I Corinthians 12 about the gifts of the Spirit and their relevance; that they are given freely by the Spirit to whomsoever He wishes and whatever quantity He desires. [I Corinthians 12: 11]. They are given solely for the edification of the church. If anyone desires self praise, whatever praise he receives will be his compensation, for he will miss the Prize. The final verse states, ?But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.? [I Corinthians 12: 31]. ?A more excellent way?? Yes! For love is the only way. The Bible tells us to covet the best gifts, and if it was not a good thing then we would not have been encouraged to do so. But better that the gifts of the Spirit is God, for God is Love. [I John 4: 8]. It doesn?t matter the good that we do ? charity, teach, preach, whatever it is ? if love is not our motivation then it is all for nothing. Yes, people will benefit from the good we do, but in the end God will not take that into consideration, for He will judge our motivation. I encourage us, as Paul did, to thirst after the spiritual gifts, but to ensure that we have the more excellent way at the center of our lives. It is better we give all or nothing, rather than it be all for nothing.

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.I Corinthians 12: 27 ? 31; 13: 1 - 8

If the Spirit of God is love, then can I replace "...then the spirit of God
came up on..." in OT passages with "...then a spirit of Love came up
on..."?

In Ephesians it speaks to the 'fruit of the Spirit' being a list of
things not 'fruits'...it's all one.

There a host of gifts of the Spirit...some
of which aren't so popularly spoken about...Helps, Administration and
others...They aren't all found in one passage

Love, a gift?!?! Hmmm...not so
sure...the context of the passage was that the Corinthian church was in a
up-roar about whose gift was better than the other and neglecting 'The Greatest
Commandment' given by God(Jesus the Christ) - love the lord with all your heart,
soul mind and strength and LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF.
