The buzz is about Kerron Ennis, who started her musical career when she was only eight years old and was singing in her local church and has now impacted lives all over the world –and countless number in Jamaica.  One person dubbed her as a charismatic and a diva in the music industry.  She has set her sights and ambition on becoming an instrument of music for the Lord and her accolades have received world wide recognition where she is now an international minister touring the Caribbean, North American, Europe, Japan and Asia.

Born, August 22, 1982, in the parish of St Andrew, she is the fifth child of Lascelles and Derica Ennis and grew up in the Patrick City community where her artistic ability has captured the hearts of many.  She has been the choir director for the Youth and Combined choirs of the Boulevard Church of the Nazarene and has received the commission from the Lord to sing and to make His praise glorious.  Her dedication for the Lord is indelibly etched into her motto of Acts 20:24, “ but none of these things moved me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God”.  Kerron was introduced to the MarJohnMuzik label in 2002 who entered her in the JCDC gospel festival in Jamaica in 2003 with the song entitled, “No Wonder” written by Clifton and Margaret Clarke.  Here she was placed third in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) gospel competition.  She then became a well sought after alto singer.  From this the musical stage of greatness was then set and Kerron has no intention of looking back.

Kerron Ennis has shared the stage with many local and international artists.  Among the list of international artists are Michael W. Smith, Marvia Providence, Toby Mac, Huntley Brown, Rosemarie Samuels among others.  On the local scene, she graced the stage with the Lt. Stitchie, Carlene Davis, Judy Mowatt, Papa San, Chevelle Franklyn just to name a few. She performed annually at the Spring Break gospel festival “Fun in the Son”, an annual event sponsored by Glory Music and has been in collaboration with the Sold Out Ministry in Montego Bay to bring the gospel to the people in Jamaica.  There was a time when the church needed to “bawl” out on behalf of the nation, and it was Kerron who led the Perpetual Praise team in worship at the launch of the Jamaica Bawl Out 2 at the St. William Grant Park in downtown Kingston in October 2004.  Presently, her album is on the market.  She has shared studio time with Lt Stitchie with “We need God” and DJ Nicholas with “Daddy Oh”. 

She has toured with Stellar award winner Papa San and Junior Tucker in 2006 and has awed audiences during the Perpetual Praise events, and had the crowd dancing at the Genesis 2005 gospel concert at the arena.  She is considered the new sensation and the newest diva in gospel music in Jamaica.  Thousands have moved to her mellifluous delivery at the Emancipation Park on numerous occasions.  It is said, “ she has the license to sing” which began while attending Merl GroveHigh School.  There she was awarded several musical awards and an award as the most outstanding student in music.  She was afforded also an Excellence in Music Award during her high school years.  It is therefore to no surpise that her talents have earned its way in the hearts of many – both locally and on the international scene.

 
The songs have been impacting lives and have made the music chart in number of countries including England with “JESUS” being number 1 on the musical chart from April 2007 to May 2007 while Daddy Oh was number 1 in Jamaica for six consecutive months.  She was awarded two awards at the Marlins Award for her pre-released album one of which was the song of the year “God is by our Side”.  She was nominated for the Maja Awards a Canada based organization for female of the year.  She was also nominated for female of the year for the Joe Higgs Award in the USA.  Her music has been aired worldwide. In 2007 Kerron Ennis won the “Teenager Choice Awards” in the category of Mother’s Gospel Artiste of the year.

The communal statement in the title is a reflection, she says, that the songs reach a wide cross-section of persons. "Everyone can find something in the tracks that they can relate to, or which can minister to them in a particular situation."

Indeed, demand is already high, not least because of Ennis' popular adaptation Daddy Oh with the vibrant sing-along chorus. But a listen to God Is By Our Side will reveal a multi-dimensional artiste, at home in a variety of musical styles and paces. The tracks are, however unified by an unwavering faith in and submission to God and to Godly authority, factors to which Ennis attributes her success to date.

Completing her Japan tour and with the imminent official launch of her debut CD, God is By Our Side the diminutive Ennis has taken the firmest step yet on the way to writing her own history in the Christian genre.
