| Sons of the Prophet Country : Jamaica Info: [ show or hide ] Divinity inspired the orchestration of this dynamic and powerful trio,
dubbed Sons of the Prophet (SOP). The convergence of Sean Lypher, Shaun
Remekie and Damoi Simpson could only have been skillfully crafted by a
miracle as being neighbors who once expressed indifference towards each
other, and another who was well on his way to pursuing his calling in
another ministry, who would have guessed that such a combination would
have been possible.
One faithful evening in 2002- after God in his omniscience had already
carefully formed Lypher’s and Remekie’s friendship using their mutual
love for Hip Hop; and also vacated Damoi’s previous commitments- God
knighted them Sons of the Prophet.
As children they humbly sought the Father, asking him to reveal and
remove any pride and short comings from their lives. Little did they
know that God would use this desire as the foundation of their
ministry. The year 2003 was a turning point for the young men of SOP as
they faced many challenges one of which was the struggle of sourcing
beats that would allow them to apply the skills they garnered from
prior secular influences such as Jay-Z, Ludacris, Gospel Gangstaz, and
Gritz. Nonetheless, in their own lexis they expressed “We prayed and
gave the beats to the Lord to sanctify” thus SOP in moving according to
the will of God, wrote and performed any and everywhere they could. One
such place, and for them “the first form of exposure”, came at a church
camp at the Open Bible Church.
As they grew in maturity their audience, primarily ..teeny boppers’,
saw them graduate from lyrics such as "I got the Holy tool, ya'll know
that’s my Bible, Ten shots from that it be the Gospel rifle...” to
their break out hit “My God”, released on the Spirit Scription Album
(2006) produced by Dale ..Dr. Dizzle.. Virgo.
“My God”, quickly became an anthem making these young men the talk of
the Christian community. The new found acknowledgement soon birthed the
realization that they were indeed Jamaicans.
Admired as one of the best tracks on the Spirit Scription album, “My
God” which candidly speaks of SOP’s pride in serving God, was destined
for great acceptance as it stimulated a clean yet explosive side to the
genre with tastefully contemporary lyrics captivating the minds of
Christians and non-Christians alike.
The newly found recognition also soared into the realms of fellow
ministers in the Christian music fraternity. This exposure caught the
attention of other established artistes, who would otherwise seek
overseas talents, and led them to do collaborations with this young and
vibrant ministry Sons of the Prophets. Alliances with local and
international gospel artistes included the smashing single Jesus I Love
You with J.A.I on his debut album Best friend, Realize with St. Matthew
on his album Armageddon, Hallelujah with Minister Blessed on his debut
Purpose, Jesus You’re Worthy with Canadian Gospel sensation Jermaine
Cowan, and Be Ok with Monique Spence another Canadian gospel sensation.
With a desire to have their ministry showcased on a wider spectrum in
the gospel arena, SOP have been privileged to share stage with some of
Jamaica’s best in Gospel music these include Dj. Nicholas , Prodigal
Son, Moses, Jermaine Edwards, J.A.I, Katalys Crew, Kerron Ennis, St.
Matthew, Perpetual Praise, Chosen Vessel, Mr. Gallimore, and Garfield
Reid among others.
With SOP’s ability to galvanize the support and love of the youth, they
aspired to have their ministry at concerts. As a result promoters
confirmed their support and participation at the following events
"Operation Consecration", "Genesis Festival" (Kingston), "Salvation
PHD", "Fun in the Son" Cross over Party (Ocho Rios), "I. S. C. F School
Concerts" (Ardenne High, St. Andrews High, Wolmers High, Meadowbrook
High, Jamaica College to name a few), Extreme Impact's "No Retreat",
Extreme Impact's "Final Destination", and Yes Movement's "God A God".
SOP has also done well in the print, audio and video media as they
sought to get their resounding message across. They have been able to
share their testimony of faith via editorials, done with the Jamaica
Gleaner’s YouthLink and the Portmore Star. They have also made
television appearances on Jamaica’s leading morning show, TVJ’s Smile
Jamaica, twice. They are fast becoming the favorites of disc jockeys on
local radio stations such as Roots FM Radio, Mega Jamz Radio, KLAS
Sports Radio and Power 102 Radio also.
“To unite, empower and mobilize the young people in Christ and to
captivate the whole nation for God. To preach the raw gospel in a
manner that can only be said of God...less of us and more of Him” is
the maxim of Sons of the Prophet or SOP as they are affectionately
called. En route to what most would refer to as undeniable success, the
young men of SOP express tremendous love and appreciation to the
earthly vessels which God has used to inspired them. Individuals and
institutions include Pastor Rowena Hinds, Cross Movement, Lacrae, Trip
Lee, Flame, Ordinary aka Mr. Amen, and D.A. Jay, just to name few.
So as they seek to promote the truth they have and continue to deepen
their relationship with Jesus Christ, SOP vows to humbly seek God in
their endeavors. And with the present situations impacting on the
youths of today SOP sends them a message: “Stay in school, learn what
you can and let God be your guide, a life of drugs and guns will only
send you to jail so make the best out of your life.” Sons of the
Prophet (SOP)… called, selected, chosen, molded and continually being
perfected by God.
