Many are now aware that gospel reggae artiste Ryan Mark and his wife, Dawnette (Crissy D) recently lost their first-born child together.
You would never have thought after seeing Ryan Mark with Crissy D close in his arms at Genesis Festival, Kingston, celebrating the ringing in of a New Year and also celebrating the anticipated birth of their first child together that there were tougher days ahead.
On January 10th, almost two weeks after blessing the patrons at the
annual Genesis Festival on stage, complications in Dawnette (Crissy D)
pregnancy found the glowing mom and proud father to be, rushing off to
Victoria Jubilee at the Kingston Public Hospital.
The news of the premature birth of Ryan and Dawnette's young daughter,
Ruth Reynolds, rang throughout the Christian community as many urged
that we commit the child in prayer. It was only hours later that we
heard she had died.
As expected, the couple and their family had been hit with a serious
cloud of despair, however, as Ryan reported to the Jamaica Observer and
a number of other media houses, Ryan Mark declared they were coping
admirably. Even as the prayers that were summoned for Baby Ruth were
now for the peace of God to be upon Ryan and Dawnette, it was clear
that God had heard the cry and concern of His servants.
Though some rightly expected for him to be a no-show at JAI's debut
album launch of Best Friend, Ryan Mark, the young man whom we have seen
mature into a mighty man of God and now a strong husband, was on hand
at the event to support his brother in Christ as well as to testify of
his faith in God for his family's peace.
What was inspirational was how Ryan handled the death of his daughter,
standing and proclaiming his faith and submitting himself to God. This
posture led him to the studio penciling his hurt, where he recorded
“Weep (Baby Ruth Story)”. The song speaks of the strain of their loss and
how he committed the conception of his child to Christ. Ryan spoke of
his wanting to have raised her the way he was not, but also of the
consolation that she is with the angels.
"You know me can’t understand everything, but I know that God knows
best...Lord I give You thanks for the three days weh mi see mi daughter
live... cause Your Word say give thanks in everything".
