?And, It?s another one?? Calvin Curtis Whelby a.k.a. Prodigal Son,
today, October 24, 2007, launched his latest project to the press
entitled, `The Prodigal Son`. Of course, you know PRAISERIOT.COM was in
the building, to ensure you, our committed community, had coverage of
this ambitious double-disc endeavor.
Prodigal Son, who already has two albums under his belt and a slew of #1 hits, was today flanked with support like we in Christendom have neverseen before. B-mobile, one of Jamaica?s and the Caribbean?s larger mobile telecommunication offerings, recently signed Prodigal to a one-year contract, making history as it would be, the first Christian artiste/minister to have done so. Partner?s Financial and Investment Limited, also sponsoring Prodigal?s latest endeavor, gave us a preview of some of the perks of their sponsorship. Trust, when we say they didn?t seem to want to spare any expenses to ensure that this launch was a success! Both sponsors echoed that their support was for the long haul. ?Songs from My Midnight? and ?The Break of Day? are the titles of each of the discs in this project. Danny Brownie, world renown producer `slash-slash` and executive producer on this project, spoke passionately about the recording sessions while working on this project. He ensured that he did not fail to make mention of the history he and Prodigal had while recounting those trying times, those times he said, ?where Calvin and I ministered to each other, though I was like the father?. Representatives from all the major media houses were in attendance, and while all were awaiting the opportunity to send some trying questions at Prodigal and his flanking sponsors and collaborators, all seemed to be held at bay once it was Prodigal?s turn at the microphone. Prodigal, ever so stylish, decked out in all black with a black pin-striped vest and pants; and a white silk tie, made his way to the podium. Highlighting how loved and appreciated this man is by his friends and family, Andrea Hinds-Duncan, who served as moderator for the session, hugged Calvin like a proud big sister before handing over the microphone. In his presentation, Prodigal went on to expound on the reasons, and at what points in his life, Songs from My Midnight and The Break of Day represented. Before he turned the podium over to Nadine Blair and Nigel Wilkinson (Love FM), he made sure he surrendered his gratitude to his wife and friends, who have been there in the ?midnight and at the break of day? being his tower of strength. ![]() prodigal and friends. from left deejay gallimore, jason mighty, ryan berry, oneil, deejay moses, omari, prodigal son, tommy cowan, and shepherd
Dignified and dapper in his demeanor was the man of the hour as
questions were fielded from the media representatives. ?Wow? was the
expression I heard from one `Jenny Jenny` of the RJR Communications
Group, as Prodigal answered the questions sent his way. The questions
ranged from the assumptions of competitiveness and envious behaviour of
other ministers, to Prodigal?s responsibility to his sponsors. He even
highlighted that he was better equipped to go into the inner-city
communities to minister, because he now had the full support of his
sponsors.
Also unveiled on the day, was that B-mobile, who are about to launch a new offering called `Ring-Back Tones`, have decided that on the 26th of October, the date of the launch concert, they will offer free `Ring-Back Tones` to all current users of the B-mobile network. The launch, we believe, was a success. Though Prodigal Son shared of some of challenges being faced with the album, such as certain difficulties with the track entitled `Hear Them Crying`, which features Richie Stephens, he continues to be grateful for all that God has allowed to be given to him, which he reiterated in his gratitude note in the cover of the CD, ?God, you chose to use me again? Wow your mercy really ?good can dun? and so for that let me stop and shout a big HALLELUJAH?? The album also features artistes such as, Omari, teaming up with Prodigal Son on a ska-flavored vibe entitled `Hustler`, the already buzzing `Ketch a Fire` and `See Jesus Yah` featuring his brother, Jason `lil Jay` Mighty. Stellar award winner Micah Stampley, joins Prodigal on a track entitled `New Generation`. The album promises not to disappoint - musically appealing, the monotony is gone. Also in attendance to congratulate Prodigal on this achievement were Tommy Cowan, Craig C, Ryan Berry, Deejay Moses, Deejay Gallimore (Sony Recording Artiste *inside joke), Terry Wedderburn, Murphy and Omari. Ensure you are there at the launch, and if you cannot make it, keep tuned to PRAISERIOT.COM
