A cloud of suspense seemed to hang over the venue as persons could be seen filing in minutes after 8pm for a 7pm start. Marshall ‘Marshy Redz’ Redwood from the Megajamz family was his usual self with his unique and comical commentaries as his assumed his duties as the evening’s emcee. After praise and worship, the evening was set for great things with explosive vocal renditions by Kevin Downswell. Following Kevin’s set was a slew of young artistes. Among those younger artistes were CMJ, a rather militant duo dubbed Radon and Blue with warriors for Christ and Rapper Timothy who had the attentive audience at attention. Michaela Jack, who is more known for her short sting on local popular talent search show, Digicel’s Rising Stars, was also among the early segment of the show with the Preacher’s Wife classic ‘I Love The Lord’ in fine cabaret style. The evening also saw 2007 winner of the JCDC Gospel Competition, Garfield Reid. This was certainly not a ‘Dance’ medley, Reid was serious about maintaining an atmosphere of worship. ‘Falling In Love With Jesus’, ‘Bow Down and Worship’ was next before he made a smooth transition to the popular RB Singers’ ‘God is Good’. When everyone thought this was all Garfield had for them, he quickly rounded up with another favourite, ‘Jump Around’ by Katalys Crew. An encore was ordered by the evenings emcee much to the audience’s delight and Mr. Reid returned with his festival winning song ‘Signs of the Time’.
Intermission and beyond Back to school again with Marshall Redwood, the alphabet song was a clever guise to keep the audience’s attention as the sound technicians dealt feverishly with a sound problem that annoyingly threatened to disturb the rest of the proceedings.
On stage at this time the band which was compiled primarily of “On The
Shout” musicians, in addition, Keyboardist Gregory the only visible
representative from Prodigal Son’s Radikal Communications family. With
the stage lights pulled to a dim, the band launched into a hardcore
thudding intro to the track ‘Dreaming’?...trust me...with every drum
stroke and every key struck not one person remained properly seated as
their anticipation propelled them further to the edge of their seats…
The Man of the Moment The band was simply brilliant- in matching black shirts and blue pants the likes of Gregory and Paulos on the keys, Jermaine/Wendell on the drums…rehearsals were obviously long and hard to achieve what was being witnessed that night. ‘God Man Anthem’ delivery was so explosively conveyed with a crazy guitar solo that left everyone cheering indefinitely. ‘Christian Soldier’ saw Craig drawing arms ...B66 was not only his Bible but also it was not a man-made pistol. He was unquestionably spiritually armed and ready to delve into some warfare. The background vocals were allowed to play with the hook of the next track as the audience took their seats for the song that he described as fresh off the album. ‘Joy’ was the title of the song- declaring the peace and happiness he had found in Christ. Craig was visibly overwhelmed with thanksgiving and praise. He obviously had a testimony to share and with that he invited his parents to be brought to attention. His thanksgiving was also extended to his band to his friends, just before before inviting Ariff Butler to the forefront to do some ‘blusic’ with ‘Giving You Everything’.
No to Abortion Craig now invited Latoya ‘LJ’ Jackson to share front stage as they delivered ‘End Times’ followed by ‘My Help’. Both were well-received including LJ’s brief rendition of the old hymn ‘I Need Thee’. At that moment no one else could really understand all the things that culminated to making the moment what it was for, but all was said as Craig C went through his title track ‘In His Presence’ as he invited fellow minister and friend Murphy onstage to sing. ‘YOU’ (remixed) saw the complement of Lypher (1/3 SOP), Deejay Praise, and Murphy all joined onstage. Though DA Jay who was obviously missing, Craig C acknowledges his support and that he was on tour. Much to everyone’s surprise he so skilfully delivered DA Jay’s verse flawlessly. The audience took to their feet and an elated Craig ended brought what was indeed a splendid evening to a close at 10:45pm still with much thanksgiving. Marshy wrapped up with the grace before bidding everyone to join Craig and supporting artistes downstairs for the after-party slated to end in the next fifteen minutes. Overall good venue…good support…got off to a late start but ended at a reasonable time…food available…professional lighting…solid ministry. Altogether a good one for his first album and we certainly look forward to more from Craig C and his company ‘Spiritual In Mind Lyrically Inclined’ (S.I.M.L.I.). He has certainly come a long way from the debut of the original ‘You’ with Murphy on Genesis 2005 to the launch of his first album February 2008.
